Controlled Goods Must have the SAFETY Mark
Consumers can do their part in keeping their families safe by looking out for the SAFETY Mark when purchasing household electrical, electronic and gas appliances.
What are Controlled Goods?
There are 33 categories of common household electrical and gas appliances and accessories that are regulated as Controlled Goods in Singapore, under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR). Controlled Goods must be tested to specified safety standards and affixed with the SAFETY Mark before they can be sold in Singapore. These include testing for safety measures against fire, electric shock, explosion and other hazards that could result in injury, death or property damage.
Consumers are strongly advised to buy only Controlled Goods that are affixed with a valid SAFETY Mark.
What is the SAFETY Mark?
The SAFETY Mark must be affixed on Controlled Goods that have been tested and certified to be compliant with the relevant safety standards, before they can be supplied in Singapore. It indicates that the Controlled Goods are likely to come with internal safeguards to protect against fire and electrical hazards.

Controlled Goods (or their packaging) must be affixed with the SAFETY Mark in a prominent location. The Mark consists of the “safety logo” and the words “SAFETY MARK” in a rectangle on the right. Each SAFETY Mark has a unique 8-digit registration number, which can be traced to the registrant and the registered models.
In addition, appliances with a 3-pin plug need to have two SAFETY Marks on them. One on the appliance and another on the plug.
